The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has firmly denied the circulating rumor regarding a corps member being assigned to the Amotekun Corps for the obligatory one-year program.
In a statement released on Saturday by Ms. Christy Olatoye, the Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations for NYSC in Oyo State, it was clarified that Amotekun is not listed among the employers in the NYSC database.
While acknowledging the esteemed reputation of the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as "Amotekun," Olatoye reiterated that no deployment letter for such a placement originated from the NYSC in Oyo State.
"The NYSC Oyo state wishes to address the trending social media story concerning a corps member allegedly posted to Amotekun Corps. It's important to clarify that our policy is to assign corps members where their skills are relevant and their services can be effectively utilized."
"While acknowledging the importance of the Amotekun Corps in its operational scope, it's imperative to note that it is not listed among our authorized employers. Our assignments are exclusively made to employers registered in our database," stated Olatoye.
She cautioned against the dissemination of false information and urged against any attempt to tarnish the reputation of the NYSC.
"The NYSC is a venerable institution that has dutifully served the nation for over five decades, boasting a commendable track record of achievements. It should not be trivialized or misrepresented," Olatoye emphasized.
