The National Examination Council (NECO)
as affirmed its preparedness for the upcoming 2024 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE), scheduled for April 20. Parents of candidates have been urged to maintain decorum during the examination.
Mr. Azeez Sani, the acting Director of the Directorate of
Information and Digital Communication of NCEE, shared this information during
an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.
Sani emphasized that the NCEE, organized by NECO for final year pupils in primary schoo
l, aims to provide opportunities for admission into JSS1 in Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
He stated, "The examination is scheduled for April 20,
and we are taking all necessary measures to ensure its successful conduct.
However, we require maximum cooperation from parents. While bringing their
wards for the examination, parents must avoid overcrowding the center and
maintain extreme decorum."
"The candidates are children who require concentration,
and we aim to minimize noise or any form of distraction during the examination.
This is an appeal to all," he added.
Sani clarified that pupils sitting for the examination are
expected to be between 10 and 13 years old by September 2024, in accordance
with the Federal Government's directive. It has been explicitly stated that
pupils below 10 years are not eligible.
"We take this opportunity to urge parents to consider
their children's education conscientiously and avoid rushing them, as it may
have adverse effects later on," he urged.
He expressed confidence that school authorities and
management have adequately briefed the pupils on what is expected of them while
addressing the questions provided as a guide.
